are all lawyers liars?

In my opinion, no. I have relatives, both on my mom and dad's side of the family, who are members of the judicial system in the country. I am not saying that all of them have clean conscience. I am sure though that most of them can be trusted and practice their profession without complicating the lives of their clients. Unlike the lawyer that I have now. He is always late during meetings and even bills us for the assistant that only says a few sentence during meetings.

I have a feeling also that he is talking with the other party behind our back. Although I am not happy with my current lawyer, I still have faith in the justice system in the Philippines. I just have to look for a new lawyer to replace this unworthy lawyer that my Uncle recommended.

does your child rely on you too much?

I think my son does and it's annoying me sometimes already. Was I at fault when I decided to take care of him and become a full time Mom? I've noticed that some of his classmates, those who spend most of the time with their yaya's, are more independent.

                                                                           photo: raising-redheads

I have been constantly reminding him to be more responsible with himself, his things and his behavior. Even if he can already do it, he still waits for me to tell him to do the things that he does everyday like take a bath already, brush his teetht or fix his school bag.

Maybe I should move on to more difficult tasks for him like doing some research for me. Do you have the same worries? Any advice?

that is so funny

"Mama, your arms are swollen", said Ms. F, my very talkative niece, to my sister. I can't help but laugh. My sister's arms are actually not swollen but she's getting a little bit fat. My niece's concern didn't stop there. She's now very conscious of her weight, at 7 years old, because she doesn't want to look fat like her mom. "Mama, you should lose weight." I just hope she doesn't ask her mom to buy her fat burner juice!

arms like hers? i want!
Kids do say the darndest things at times. But most of the time its true and we adults should listen to their advice.

Stuffed Chicken Breast Recipe with ham and swiss cheese and mushroom sauce

Cook Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients:
8 boneless chicken breast halves, skin removed
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup milk
4 slices (1 ounce each) cooked ham, cut in half
4 slices (1 ounce each) Swiss cheese, cut in half
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/3 cup fine dry bread crumbs
vegetable oil
.
Mushroom Sauce:
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup thinly sliced mushrooms
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 cup heated milk
1/2 cup chicken broth
salt
white pepper

Preparation:
Place each piece of chicken between 2 sheets of wax paper or in food storage bag. Pound gently to flatten, using a rolling pin or smooth side of meat mallet. Sprinkle chicken pieces with salt and pepper. Combine eggs with 1 cup milk; dip chicken pieces in mixture. Place a piece of ham and a piece of cheese in the center of each flattened piece of chicken. Brush top of cheese slices with the milk and egg mixture. Fold ends over the ham and cheese; roll up, beginning with long side. Secure rolls with toothpicks. Dredge chicken in the 1/3 cup flour then dip in remaining milk mixture; roll in bread crumbs to coat well. Place chicken rolls on a plate; cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.
Heat 1/2-inch of vegetable oil in a heavy skillet over medium-low heat. Fry chicken rolls for 20 minutes, turning frequently, until golden brown. Drain well. Serve with mushroom sauce. Serves 8.

Mushroom Sauce:
Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat; sauté mushrooms until browned. Add flour and stir until mixture is well blended. Gradually stir in hot milk and chicken broth. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until sauce begins to boil and thickens. Simmer, stirring frequently, over very low heat for 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Makes about 1 cup of medium thick sauce.

A few more weeks, Halloween will be over. Christmas decors will soon replace the pumpkins, bats and ghosts in our homes. I already bought Christmas gifts, for some people on my list, a few months earlier. But I still need x-mas gift ideas because I still have a few more people to buy gifts for.

where to find a barong

Barong is the national clothing for Filipino men. It is usually required to wear this, in lieu of a suit, during formal occasions in the Philippines. Businessmen and drivers alike wore a Barong on a daily basis. The only difference in their Barong is the price because of the material used in making it. The cheapest Barong can be bought with a few hundreds to a thousand or two. Divisoria Mall, in the city of Manila, is a good place to look for a cheap one. Dresses for everyone in a wedding entourage, from bridesmaid dresses to flower girls', can be found here also.

Barong

The more elegant Barong's are usually priced from a hundred thousand pesos or less. These are usually priced higher because of the material and designs. Most of these expensive Barong's are designer-made or can be bought in high-end malls.

My son started swimming at the age of two. He hates it. He cries before, during and after his swim class. But it was good for him because he's asthmatic. Fast forward to now, he seldom experience asthma attacks. His swimming everyday made him healthier and stronger. When he was 5 years old, he started playing soccer and basketball.

Aside from making kids healthier and stronger, playing sports is a growth booster. My son is growing up so fast, a year from now he'll be as tall as me. Start engaging your kids in sports while they are still young.

unwanted pounds after giving birth?

So you just gave birth? Congratulations. Nothing can beat the joy, and yes- stress as well as sleepless nights, of being a new mom. I know you're anxious to get a regular sleep. What? Belly bulge? I hear you. I've been there. It's not really hard to lose that belly bulge if one is determined and disciplined enough.

Herbal pills can help you lose your excess weight fast. But if you're breastfeeding, ask your doctor about it first.

math isn't hard

13 October 2010

Math has always been easy for RJ. I was pretty sure that finance would be on top of his career list in the future. But when they started doing long division in school, RJ started to not like Math. He doesn't want to do his homework the first day the teacher taught long division.

So we had a long talk that night. I noticed that he's just saying, "This lesson is hard" not because he finds it hard. Just the thought of doing "lots of steps" is enough to make him feel lazy to even start solving the equation. I advised him not to rush, in dividing, to avoid a wrong answer.

At the end of our long talk, he's smiling and loving math again.

its never too late

I try to look for different art and recreation classes that RJ can join. Everyday is an opportunity, that needs to be filled with more knowledge and explore different possibilities, that will lead to where and what he'll best be in the future. I am getting worried that it's already too late for him to try different things now that he's 9.

Last night I was watching a talk show about Mom's and their kids. An athlete who won 1st place in an international competition was featured. He's 17 years old and he started playing the sport he's into at the age of 15. I shouldn't worry about RJ then. He has ample time to try out different activities.

I should add more vacation time in our activities also. Aside from the fun that he'll get from traveling, it will also broaden his knowledge. I would start searching for cheap vacation deals for his Halloween break.

in the future...

My son and I always try to find the time to play and goof around before going to sleep. We invent our own games. One such game is what we call "In the future".

We basically take turns in making a sentence out of the "in the future" phrase. We use our imagination in making a sentence of what the world's future will be. Sounds like a boring game? Not! This game makes my son laugh so hard. An example of an "in the future" sentence about tech jobs: "In the future, people will just stare at the computer and the computer will already do what the person is thinking."

Ok, fine. Not funny for you maybe, but the laugh that my son and I share...priceless.

looking for swim club

I am looking for a new swim club for my son. Preferably, a team that trains during the weekend.

RJ is part of his school's swim varsity since his preschool years. But the school pool has been under renovation and RJ hasn't attended swim training for a few months already. He's been having cough and colds, every month, since August. Not swimming is the cause of his low immune system.

I've learned today that the pool is done and ready for the swimmer's daily training in the school's newly renovated swimming area.

swimmer

My problem now is the school services' unwillingness to pick us up after swim training. There are two possible solution to this problem. One: transfer to a new school bus and look for a tutor near the school if RJ still wants to join the swim team. Two: Not join swim team in school and look for a new team that trains during weekends only.

I thus have to weigh the pros and cons of each of the possible solutions...ASAP.

blogger at 7?

Last year's summer break was more productive than this year's summer vacation. Productive in terms of fun as well as learning for my son RJ. I was already aware about blogging at that time. I wasn't too keen though on sharing my life with the online world. My son had a blog before I had one.

rj the blogger

I encouraged my son to start blogging summer of last year. My goal was for him to practice his grammar and writing without hearing his usual, "Why do you always force me to study?" The idea of designing his own site and publishing his vacation pictures online was exciting for him. He used a free hosting service and it's still online up to now. From time to time, he still updates the site with new pictures and new stories.

Now he wants to create a new blog with a different theme.
