You can learn many things from children.  How much patience you have, for instance.  ~Franklin P. Jones

Yes, I have learned that I really don't have a lot of patience. But as the years go by, I learned how to be more patient with my son and with other people. So having a child has it's perks too.

are you worried about the future?

I am a worry-wart when it comes to my son. I worry when he's in school. I worry about his future. I worry about anything and everything that my imaginative mind can think of. I believe most mommies are.

I have been planning to get a life insurance. I was already researching the available policies that I was able to get from reputable insurance companies. But I got hesitant when more than one insurance company, in the country, closed for bankruptcy. Although most of them we're non-life, I still didn't want to have problems later on.
compare life insurance

After years and years of waiting, the economy is looking good right now. The peso is getting stronger and stronger every passing day. The stock market is the same. So yes, I should set aside my worries for the future and concentrate in solving my present-day worries.

lose weight before your wedding Ms. D

28 September 2010

RJ's Auntie D, my sister, needs to lose weight to be able to fit in a sexy wedding dress. We have been telling her to stop eating too much. She's all too eager to lose weight but she's also not giving up on her fave stress-removal-theraphy --eating.

fruit bowl

She has been begging me to gift her with a fat burner juice drink. My friend T has tried it and swears that it's the best of the best fat burner she has ever tried. I have to convince her first to eat more fruits and vegetables instead of rice and meat. Because even if I do buy the juice drink for her, she can't rely on it for the rest of her life. Exercise and a healthy, balanced diet is still the best remedy to lose weight.

no electricity?

RJ will go camping, his first, this November. And yes, first time without Mama with him for three whole days! This Kab Scout camping is a father and son activity. I am really really worried that his Dad won't be able to take care of him. They will sleep in a tent and the place doesn't have electricity.

How much did I pay? Five Thousand Pesos! And that doesn't include tent rental yet. My friend was able to get financing for her new car. Is there such a thing as camping financing?

On World Teachers’ Day 2010 hundreds of thousands of students, parents and activists around the world will pay homage to all teachers who have been directly or indirectly affected by a major crisis.

Be it a humanitarian crisis, such as the earthquake in Haiti and China, or the global economic crisis that has devastated many developed economies over the past year, the role of teachers and other education personnel is vital to social, economic and intellectual rebuilding.

All those who are fighting to provide quality education to children of the world can join teachers and their representative organisations to celebrate the profession and show them their support!

rainshower shower head
There's always this one problem everytime RJ steps out of the shower. Shampoo and soapsuds drip all over the bathroom floor because he doesn't rinse well. I have to ask him all the time to go back inside the bathroom.

Because of Grohe shower head, that doesn't happen now. When RJ steps out of the shower, he's squeeky clean!

Oreo is my son's all time favorite snack. For his mid-afternoon and midnight snack, he only need oreo cookies. Eating oreos alone will never be complete without milk right?

oreo, milk, low-fat milk

He's a thin boy but he likes low-fat milk. He doesn't lick and dunk the oreo. What he does is soak the oreo in milk.

Who doesn't love oreo and milk? How do you eat your oreo?

a gift you won't be ashamed of giving

Christmas is just around the corner. I must admit that I usually get crazy during this time of the year. With all the gifts that needs to be bought and wrapped, who wouldn't go crazy? What if they just throw my gift in the trash because they don't like it? Or worse, they rewrap it and unintentionally give it as a gift for me?!

I myself, sometimes, don't like the gifts that I get. No, I don't throw it in the trash. Most of the time I rewrap and give the gift to other people.

amazon gift card

This year, to save me from a lot of headaches, I'm planning to just give out amazon gift cards. With the gift card, all my friends can get to buy something that they really like. Whenever they look at that something, they will smile and remember that I gave them that gift. Not frown and say, "What a horrible gift!"

SM Rock Toonfest 2010

I got an invitation from Trixie of Nuffnang Philippines two weeks ago. The said invitation was for the Sept 19 SM Rock Toonfest event. Me and my son, together with a few tag-alongs, arrived at around 3pm at SM Mall of Asia Music Hall.

SM Rock Toonfest

My son and nephew had a blast! They joined the parade around MOA wearing the shirts bought with the GC's included in the goodie bag. Thanks Nuffnang and SM for the fun-filled Sunday afternoon.

no to study time!

"I am so tired!" That's what my son says, every single day, when it's time for him to study. Before study time, he has so much energy, he's practically bouncing from floor to ceiling and from one wall to another. But when I ask him to start studying, he is suddenly dead tired!
placard
I have tried lots of tricks, those that i've thought of and those suggested by others, to help us get through study time. Nothing worked. He always has the same excuse.

I would love to just read my new magazines and not care at all if he wants to study or not. But I'm his mom and I do want for him to excel in school.

So I'll just keep on helping him study everyday. I'm hoping he soon learns to study by himself. My patience is wearing thin every passing day.

less than 100 days before christmas

18 September 2010

The weather is still so hot. It still doesn't feel like Christmas is just around the corner. But yes, only less than a hundred more days till Christmas! I already bought some gifts but there are still more that I have to buy. And yes -wrap! I am thinking of just looking for online promotional items.
The gifts that I usually give out during Christmas are unexpensive. Although the gift is cheap, I make sure that the person who will receive it will find the gift really useful. Less than 3 months of scouting for gifts is not that enough for my growing list of "Christmas gift for..." So, I better work on it so I can cross some on the list.

don't let your kids watch the news

The television networks here in the Philippines are more concerned with their "ratings". They're like kids fighting to get the first piece of a pie. There was a report a few days back about a baby found in an airplane's toilet bin. Everyday after that, news about more abandoned babies were being reported left and right.

news report

A very irresponsible news reporter even interviewed the family of the girl who supposedly abandoned the baby. They don't care at all what the family was going through. They are so heartless. All they care about is topping the news!

More often than not, the news reports on television these days are so worthless!

crossing the street by himself

RJ does not know how to cross the street by himself yet. During our everyday walk, from his tutor to our house, I make it a "learning experience" for him. I have been observing him and I know that it's not the right time to let-him-loose-on-the-streets just yet.
street sign

I remember learning about road and safety signs in school. I'll just have to wait for RJ to learn that in school. Then take that as a cue to slowly let him walk on the streets by himself.

education or a house

We live in a condominium building. Who wouldn't want to live in a house with a garden? But our main priority right now is RJ's education. His tuition fee increases in amount every single year. Transferring him to another school never crossed our minds. Not unless we find a much better school than where he is currently enrolled.

My dream of a house with a garden, in front of the ocean, will have to remain a dream at the moment. I will just feast my eyes on mansions listed at the foreclosure websites.

broke-back school bag

RJ's school bag is so heavy. Thank God stroller bags got invented. Breaking one's back, because of carrying a heavy school bag, can now be avoided.

Look how big RJ's bag is. Imagine a child carrying a heavy bag like that every single day. Stroller bags are more expensive than back packs. But that's a small price to pay for saving your child from back pains.

taal volcano adventure

Summer of last year, we decided to have a little adventure. I have been reading good reviews about Taal Volcano trekking and horseback riding. I have never tried riding a horse before -so yes, I was so excited. I chose Taal Lake Yacht Club as the starting point of our Taal trek adventure. The club has a package that includes lunch, tour guide, outrigger boat and the horse for the climb up the volcano.

I didn't enjoy this adventure at all.

They gave a small horse for RJ. His guide is 10 years old, but he looks like he's only 8 years old. I didn't know that the path going up to view the volcano was very steep. And yes, very dusty! They were selling facemasks for a price of 3-4 small bottles of mineral water already.

When we finally reached the top, there was no feeling of fulfillment at all. For me, it was just a waste of time and money! Yes, it was windy at the top. Yes, finally I was able to see Taal Lake and Taal Volcano with my own eyes. But really, there was never a "Wow!" moment for me.

RJ, on the other hand, was so happy riding the horse. I had a dozen heart-stopping moment during that trek, but RJ liked it so much. He was oblivious to the dangers we were facing. For him, it was a thrilling experience. Not for me. I will never dream of being an equestrian.

growing up so fast!

My son is growing up so fast. Shirts in the kids section are too small for him already. He's tall for his age, although some of his classmates are taller than him, so I have the same problem with his pants.

polo shirt

I buy men's polo shirts for him already. I buy the shirts that doesn't look like he's borrowing from his Dad's closet. I look for shirts that are still suitable for his age. Since he's tall and thin, I pick striped shirts for him.

I want to hug him all the time while he still wants to be hugged. He's so sweet, he's always saying, "Mama, let's huggie!" Most boys don't want to hug and kiss their parents anymore as they grow older. I am hopeful that RJ won't be like that.

rj's favorite magazine

RJ's favorite magazine is K-Zone.

kzone philippines

K-Zone (commonly abbreviated as KZ) is a children's magazine in Australia, New Zealand, The Philippines and Malaysia. It's target audience are children 9-12 years old. The magazine has been published monthly for several years now, and the first official issue of this magazine was in 1999. The Philippine edition of K-Zone was first released in October 2002.

I am not happy though with some of the articles published on this magazine. They once wrote an article about "Excuses not to do your homework". The editors should remember that their readers are kids as young as 3 years old.

They should put writers and editors who have kids of their own already. Parents would know what kids should and shouldn't be reading.

bad for mama's heart

14 September 2010

RJ's report card, for the first quarter grading period, was given last week. It wasn't a fun experience for me. The few days of anticipating, if he passed or failed, almost gave me a heart attack. The pressure was too much to bear. I tutor my son, except for his Chinese subject, so I feel like it's my fault if he fails. He is a very smart boy but sometimes he is careless in following instructions during tests.

I am happy, although not very, that he didn't have any failing mark. His grades we're good, but I was expecting to see better marks than what he got. I hope he'll ace his quizzes and quarterly tests next time.

I don't want to put a lot of pressure on him anymore. I want him to enjoy school. Learning doesn't necessarily mean getting a perfect grade anyway.

And the pressure is also bad for my health.

Hail Holy Queen

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy!
Our life, our sweetness, and our hope!
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve;
to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn, then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us;
and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

am i a charice pempengco fan?

07 September 2010

Not really. I am not a die-hard fan of Charice. But everytime I hear her sing, everytime people from other countries say praises about her wonderful talent, I can't help but feel proud that I am a Filipino.

I can still remember her incredulous look when Sam Concepcion was declared winner in ABS-CBN's Little Big Star contest.
"When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us." - Alexander Graham Bell
A much bigger door has indeed been opened for Charice Pempengco.
