One of the guests in The Today show this morning is Liz Scott, mother to a girl named Alex. Alex Scott battled neuroblastoma, a type of childhood cancer, before her first birthday until she died in 2004 at the age of 8.
Alex was a determined, courageous, confident and inspiring child with big dreams and big accomplishments. After she received a stem transplant the day after her 4th birthday, she said to her mother that she wants to have a lemonade stand so that she can give money to the hospital to help them find a cure. Later that year, her first lemonade stand raised $2,000 for childhood cancer research.
After she passed away, her family continued her inspiring legacy through Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation. People from all over the world held their own lemonade stands and donated the proceeds to her foundation. Alex’s mother, has raised additional funds by auctioning off her lemon cookies. This year, the cookies raised $13,000 on the eve of what would have been Alex’s 13th birthday.
Isn't this a very inspiring story?
