Fish Recipe for Kids

11 October 2012

I'm trying to feed my son more healthy food. So I started to make fruit shakes and vegetable soups for dinner.

Fish is not really his favorite. But because I'm also on a diet and trying to lessen my meat intake, I tried making my own recipe to make it kid-friendly.

Here's the very simple recipe:
1. Sprinkle the fish (I usually use Dory or Tilapia fillet) with a dash of pepper (I usually don't use salt), ginger (chili flakes for that extra kick) and lemon juice (kalamansi will do as well).
2. Wrap it in foil. I usually add leafy greens, tomatoes and whatever veggies I have in the fridge. The juice in the veggies will add flavor to the fish.
3. Steam.
4. Here's how your kids will love it: Top the steamed fish with cream cheese and sprinkle with cheddar cheese.

And even if they don't eat the veggies, the juice from the steamed veggies has seeped in the fish.

Awesome idea or what?

My son loved it by the way.

safe online social network for kids

I have been hearing about Club Penguin from my son for months already. His friends have been playing on this social networking gaming site for kids instead of facebook games. I once in awhile allow my son to play after he’s done with homework and studying for his quizzes.

The main focus of Disney's Club Penguin is child safety and the suitability of the game to children. So for this holiday break, instead of buying something for me *sob*, I bought a one month membership for my son.

My son has been playing with a free membership for the past few months. But in order to access a range of additional features, like ability to purchase virtual clothing and furnitures through the use of in-game currency, a paid membership is required.

reminder for first-time moms

My friend is going to be a first-time mommy in a few months. She started buying baby clothes after the first ultrasound. They already borrowed the stroller, crib and baby furniture from families and friends. The money that’ll they save for those things will be added to the baby’s educational fund.

baby asleep

I have one reminder for first-time moms like my friend. You have to buy a new mattress for your baby. It’s alright to scrimp on other stuffs but not the mattress. Old mattresses can trap germs, from spit ups and diaper change accidents, that could cause serious health problems to the baby. A used one, very probable to not being firm anymore,  can also contribute to SIDS. You can search for crib mattress reviews for more information on how to choose the right mattress for your baby.

This is the song that we sing everyday, because he used to watch Barney 7 days a week, when he was still a younger. How I miss those days *sniff*.

just like crop rotation

"Can I have porkchops for lunch next week?", my son asked me last night.

"So we're through with fried chicken?"

My picky eater son has a suggestion. "Why not prepare something different every week for my lunch. Do it like crop rotation, new dish every week."

lunch baon: chicken balls with homemade gravy
"Well, it's hard to do that with you because most of the time you don't like new dishes. So I just stick with those that you'll surely eat. So starting this week, tell me what you want for your weekly lunch so I can include it on my weekly grocery list."

I hope this will solve our problem of too much left over food in his lunchbox.*fingers crossed*

A few more weeks, Halloween will be over. Christmas decors will soon replace the pumpkins, bats and ghosts in our homes. I already bought Christmas gifts, for some people on my list, a few months earlier. But I still need x-mas gift ideas because I still have a few more people to buy gifts for.

sports for your preschooler

My son started swimming at the age of two. He hates it. He cries before, during and after his swim class. But it was good for him because he's asthmatic. Fast forward to now, he seldom experience asthma attacks. His swimming everyday made him healthier and stronger. When he was 5 years old, he started playing soccer and basketball.

Aside from making kids healthier and stronger, playing sports is a growth booster. My son is growing up so fast, a year from now he'll be as tall as me. Start engaging your kids in sports while they are still young.

rj's favorite magazine

RJ's favorite magazine is K-Zone.

kzone philippines

K-Zone (commonly abbreviated as KZ) is a children's magazine in Australia, New Zealand, The Philippines and Malaysia. It's target audience are children 9-12 years old. The magazine has been published monthly for several years now, and the first official issue of this magazine was in 1999. The Philippine edition of K-Zone was first released in October 2002.

I am not happy though with some of the articles published on this magazine. They once wrote an article about "Excuses not to do your homework". The editors should remember that their readers are kids as young as 3 years old.

They should put writers and editors who have kids of their own already. Parents would know what kids should and shouldn't be reading.

I am watching right now the rerun of Scripps National Spelling Bee 2010 Championship round. Anamika Veeramani won with the word Stromuhr. The prizes she got were not that bad for a 14 year old to receive.

RJ is so excited to watch this movie. And so are my younger sisters, who are now in their 20's. I am not that excited though.

But since me and my son are always together, and me being a movie addict, I don't have any choice but to watch this movie. Steve Carell plays an animated super-villain named Gru, a guy who would blow up a balloon animal just so he could pop it in a little kid’s face.

Enjoy the trailer!

protect your baby's skin

Diaper rash is a common condition that can cause mild redness, soreness and scaling to a baby's skin. The leading cause, of these rashes appearing on baby's delicate skin, is irritation brought about by soiled diapers that are left on for too long.

To prevent RJ from having rashes, when he was still using diapers, I make it a point to apply a diaper rash ointment as often as necessary. I do that with each diaper change especially when I forget to change his wet diaper for a prolonged period of time (such as bedtime).

Boudreaux’s Butt Paste is a diaper rash ointment that has been featured on The Oprah Show, People Magazine and ESPN to name a few. Boudreaux's Butt Paste was specifically formulated by a pharmacist with direction from a respected pediatrician to provide effective diaper rash care. It spreads on easily, cleans off quickly, and has a pleasant scent.

Blairex has added 3 new products to the Boudreaux’s Butt Paste family. Boudreaux’s Baby Kisses is a non-irritating effective way to quickly restore moisture and help heal dry, chapped lips and cheeks. Boudreaux’s Butt Bath Moisturizing Body Wash & Shampoo is a gentle non-irritating formula for infants and children that restores moisture to delicate skin and helps prevent the drying effects of cleansing. Boudreaux’s Baby Butt Smooth Moisturizing Body Ointment is a non-irritating effective way to quickly restore moisture to dry skin and help enhance the natural healing process.

No one is perfect, that's why pencils have erasers.

I always tell my son that making mistakes is part of life. It turns bad when you don't learn from your mistakes. It's even more bad if you keep on repeating your mistakes.
