benefits of having a life insurance

Do you really know what Life Insurance is? It is a contract between an insurance policy holder, the person who bought the policy, and an insurer, the company who sold the policy, where the insurer promises to pay a designated beneficiary, of the person who bought the policy, a sum of money upon the death of the insured person.

If the head or the main breadwinner of a family dies or become critically ill, the family won't have to worry much about their finances if he/she has a life insurance availed beforehand. The main benefit is really about the financial stability of the family left behind.

My son, a proud Mama's boy

My son is a very sweet boy. He's already 10 years old but he still hug and kiss me in front of other people. Although that's not always the case, I just succeeded, I guess, in brainwashing explaining why he shouldn't be ashamed of being sweet to his family.

I remember when he was 4 years old, we just arrived in his school and I waited for the see-you-later-kiss. But he went straight to his classroom. I caught him just in time, before he opened the door, and I asked for a hug and a kiss. He did hug and kiss me but with an averted gaze.

there's nothing like a mama's hug

I talked to him after school, he's getting conscious, he doesn't want his classmates to tease him. "Are you a Mama's boy?", I asked him. He said "Yes", maybe because he doesn't want to hurt my feelings.

"Being labeled a Mama's boy and showing your affection to people you love is not something you should be ashamed of. You should be proud that Mama loves you and that you also love Mama very much. If someone teases you again, just ignore them."

I'm hopeful that he'll forever be a sweet boy.

Do you have a green thumb?

My Grandpa has.

There’s this small plot in front of the family house in the city and a bigger piece of unused land at the back. A few of our tenants, we used to rent some of our vacant rooms before, tried planting on the dry and unhealthy soil. But no one was successful.

My Grandpa, who I call Lolo To, started cleaning the soil to make it more healthy. He patiently removed the broken glasses and rocks every spare time that he has. He also made compost pits all over the yard, every time a pit is full, he covers it with soil and digs another compost beside the already full one.

He’s very patient with gardening. And now that he’s retired from work, he has more time to spare in adding more flowering plants and fruit bearing trees to his small farm in the city.

spoiled

Do grandparents really tend to spoil their grandkids? Or is it just my parents, uncles and aunts who are spoiling my son?

We we're in Greenhills once and an action figure caught RJ's eyes. He began to ask me non-stop to buy it for him. His tears didn't make me buy the expensive toy at all. Then I saw him smiling and playing with the toy! Apparently, my aunt bought the toy for him! At one point, he accidentally dropped the toy's hat. He again ran back to the store where he bought the action figure and began asking me to buy another one. Kids are born with compass showing directions to toy stores, I swear!

My mom, aunt and RJ, all at the same time, were harassing me to buy the action figure. It may be funny now, not the part that I shelled-out a few hundreds, but it was really annoying at that time.

Grandparents! Why do they always have to say YES to their grandchildren?

My Dad is an Ilocano. But not everyone, namely mom, me and my sisters, can speak and understand the Ilocano dialect. I and my sisters grew up in my mom's hometown in the Bicol region. The region is famous for its spicy delicacies, the almost-perfect coned Mayon Volcano, the gentle giant Butandings of Sorsogon and handmade crafts (not perishable and can be used if cramming for last minute wedding gift ideas).

I've been to Ilocos Region during a school fieldtrip but I have yet to meet relatives on my Dad's side of the family. January of this coming new year, our family will go to Ilocos. Hopefully after that trip, I'll know more about my Dad's Ilocandia as much as I know about my Mom's Bicolandia.

It's about time I touch base with my Dad's side of the family. I will also try to learn the local dialect before the end of the year.

lose weight before your wedding Ms. D

RJ's Auntie D, my sister, needs to lose weight to be able to fit in a sexy wedding dress. We have been telling her to stop eating too much. She's all too eager to lose weight but she's also not giving up on her fave stress-removal-theraphy --eating.

fruit bowl

She has been begging me to gift her with a fat burner juice drink. My friend T has tried it and swears that it's the best of the best fat burner she has ever tried. I have to convince her first to eat more fruits and vegetables instead of rice and meat. Because even if I do buy the juice drink for her, she can't rely on it for the rest of her life. Exercise and a healthy, balanced diet is still the best remedy to lose weight.
