Am I a Super Woman?

I can't count on my fingers the number of times I heard some mom friends say they're very tired. One of them has one child and she has a maid and she can call a relative to drive her anywhere she needs to go. Another has three grown up kids, who doesn't need to get taken care of, a maid, a nanny, tutor for her kids and a full-time driver.

And they're tired?

I feel like a super woman every time I compare what I have to do everyday with what my friends do.

  This is how my day looks like. I wake up around 5:10 am to prepare breakfast and the lunch meal that my son needs to bring to school. School service picks up my son before 6:30am. Then I clean the house, wash the dishes and do some online work. I also research new topics for my blogs and new things to do on my spare time. I also squeeze in some exercise, shower and I then rest for an hour or two before 1pm because I usually sleep at 12-1:30am the previous night. At 1pm, I eat lunch and prepare the laundry that the laundromat will pick up or those that I need to wash in the afternoon. I also prepare the fruits and sandwich for my son's merienda.

I then have to wait for a taxi and go to my son's school at 2:30pm to pick him up. School bus leaves at around 3:30pm-4:30pm to bring us home. I do some blog updates while waiting for the school bus to leave. The school bus drops us off at my son's Chinese tutor and I walked to our house which is three buildings away from his tutors.

Upon arriving home, I cook, do the laundry, do some work and finish other household chores that I wasn't able to do in the morning. When my son calls, I then pick him up and continue the tasks that I left off as soon as we arrive in the house. I help him review his other subjects also.

We then eat dinner and catch up on the interesting things that happened to him in school. Then I wash the dishes, squeeze in some exercise (if it's not too late), I take a bath, we play chess or monopoly, then we pray, talk some more and RJ falls asleep.

My day doesn't end there. I finish off some work, do more research, dry the dishes.

And then I get to sleep, as I've said usually between 12midnight - 1:30am.

So? Am I a super woman compared with some of my mom friends? I'd like to think so!

Some mothers choose to work not just to prove their worth in this world. They work for their family's future, particularly that of their childrens future.

I'm a stay-at-home mom. I do work at home so I'm also a work-at-home mom some days. But the money I earn is nothing compared with that of my friends who works in big companies. I put on hold my wants, needs and dreams so I can take care of my son.

I did make a lot of sacrifice. But just like me and other stay-at-home moms, working moms also made a lot of sacrifice. They missed most of their kids' firsts -first step, first word, first smile. And the worry of leaving their kids with people who are not even related to them. That's the sacrifice that working moms have to endure.

And stay-at-home moms, like me, also have sacrifices... that I will write in length on another article.

new year, new (additional) work-at-home jobs

I graduated from the University of the Philippines with an Applied Mathematics degree. I worked as a computer analyst (and after that as an Actuarial Assistant) for a few years. Was not happy with those jobs though, find it unenjoyable and nerdy. So after giving birth to my son (actually while I was still pregnant) I decided to be a work-at-home mom. I have been working at home for a few years already. I have a homebased travel agency, I cater to family, friends and friends of friends. I also tutor elementary students (all subjects) and high school students (math subjects only). I don't find tutoring math nerdy and boring though since I get to interact with young kids, that makes me feel young(er).

This year I am adding three additional part-time jobs to my already hectic schedule of being a stay-at-home mom (I don't have a maid and nanny), travel agent and tutor. I am now officially an online tutor and a mystery shopper, new exciting jobs for the new year!

The third job that I am also planning to try out is being a real estate agent. I have been researching about it for a few months already. I am now trying to design my business card. The hard part is designing my own logo to make it (look) more official. Hope I finish making it already before the end of this month.

Being a stay-at-home mom was the best decision I have made. I can have different jobs and be able to use ALL the talents that God has given me. I know now that I am not just a math nerdy.
